Isle of Wight chef’s path to success: From apprentice at The Royal to Michelin Award winner

Congratulations are in order for Islander, Sarah Hayward, who has been named as Young Chef of 2023 in the latest Michelin Awards for Great Britain and Ireland.

Although she’s now Head Chef at Tom Kerridge’s one Michelin-starred pub in Marlow – The Coach, Sarah grew up and trained on the Isle of Wight.

Apprenticed at the Royal
After leaving Sandown High School, she gained an apprenticeship at The Royal Hotel, Ventnor. Sarah went on to become Demi Chef de Partie at Chester Grosvenor Hotel and Spa, before moving to Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa.

Now at The Coach, Sarah heads up the team that delivers “traditional dishes given a contemporary twist”.
