Isle of Wight Community Help for Ukraine: Here’s how you can get involved

When crisis hits around the globe, it’s never long before Isle of Wight residents head to social media to find out how they can help.

With situation in Ukraine growing ever more concerning for those watching, Islander Sarah Stoker decided she wanted to help and galvanise others.

She started by setting up the Isle of Wight community help for Ukraine Group, a place where those who want to help can find out more.

Incredible amount if interest
The Group now has four others Islanders acting as Admins to help with the efforts and its membership has grown rapidly in recent days with just under 1,500 members at time of publishing.

Sarah told News OnTheWight that they are still in the planning stages, but ultimately want to collect items to go to the Ukraine border to help refugees.

She added,

“There has been an incredible amount if interest so far and the group has grown very quickly.

“We have made provisional arrangements to start accepting donations and today (Monday) we should have drop off-points in place and a clearer idea of how and where the donations will go.”

Follow the Group
You’ll need to be on Facebook to follow the updates, but details such as items required; women’s, children’s and men’s clothes; blankets, hot water bottles, sleeping bags, etc; toiletries, painkillers, bandages etc. are being regularly added.

If you want to stay on top of the latest appeals and news, head over to the Facebook Group today.
