Isle of Wight council approves 4.99% council tax increase for 2025-26 (update 2)

Isle of Wight council voted this evening (Wednesday) to increase council tax by 4.99% when it set its budget for 2025-26.

Both the Liberal Democrat and Conservative group of councillors put forward amendments which were voted through. Those amendments joined the substantive budget proposals put forward by the Alliance group. The Empowering Islanders’ motion was withdrawn.

Independent Labour councillor for Pan and Barton, Geoff Brodie, and Conservative councillor for Fairlee and Whippingham, Matthew Price, voted against the substantive proposals.

Both MPs, who are also Isle of Wight councillors, attended the meeting and voted in favour of the substantive proposals
