Isle of Wight Council confirms parking permit cost rise for tourists

While parking charges have been frozen for Isle of Wight residents, tourists are not so lucky.

New figures show an All Island Tourist Permit will cost between six and 11 per cent more from April – at least £10 a day.

Jordan: ‘Modest increases’
At an Isle of Wight Council meeting earlier last week, leader Councillor Phil Jordan described the increase as ‘modest’ and confirmed other parking charges would not rise.

The permit can range in length, from two days to two weeks for cars, and for either four or seven days for coaches and oversized vehicles.

It allows visitors (including Islanders, if they wish to buy one) to park for 24 hours in most council-owned pay and display car parks.

Exceptions include Yarmouth Harbour and Yaverland’s Dinosaur Isle, however.

Here’s how much costs will rise by:

Cars

  • Two-day permit – £18.75 to £20
  • Three-day permit – £27 to £30
  • Four-day permit – £37.50 to £40
  • Seven-day permit – £65.65 to £70
  • 14-day permit – £131.25 to £140

Oversized vehicles

  • Four-day permit – £72.80 to £83.20
  • Seven-day permit – £127.40 to £145.60

The permit can only be purchased via the PayByPhone app.
