We’d heard that Sky News was reporting that the Isle of Wight council had run out of salt to put on the roads.
Obviously that would be a concern to everyone on the Island, so we got in touch with the council who told us categorically that this wasn’t the case, indeed there approximately 300 tonnes of salt on the Island, which they say should be sufficient to last until midweek.
Peter Hayward, Isle of Wight Council head of highways and transport, explained the bigger picture, “All salt supplies are now being allocated by Government according to need so there is no reason to believe we will not continue to have as much salt as required.”
