Could you become one of the Isle of Wight council’s highest-paid officers?
The authority is on the lookout for a new director of children’s services, as it severs ties with Hampshire County Council and aims to re-establish the department.
The successful candidate will receive up to £117,850 a year from the Isle of Wight council to lead the service that oversees Island schools and children’s welfare.
Surplus places
One main challenge for the director will be addressing the issue of surplus places in primary schools, which might lead to closures.
The council has decided to terminate its ten-year strategic partnership with Hampshire — a partnership that enhanced the Island’s services — and to operate independently, tailoring a service to meet the Isle of Wight’s distinctive needs.
Transition period
In September, the authority decided that while it would provide some services, it would purchase others from Hampshire as situations stabilised.
In the job advertisement, Wendy Perera, the council’s chief executive, mentioned that the Island was at a turning point, with a new senior team dedicated to advancing the authority’s vision.
She said,
“We are excited to be offering this unique opportunity to build on strong foundations and create an independent service to be proud of.”
The deadline for applications is 18th October 2023. Find out more about the role on the Website.
