Isle of Wight council planning officers recommend ‘conditional permission’ for oil exploration plans

A planning application for exploratory oil wells in the Arreton Valley will be heard by the Planning Committee next week (19th October).

Planning officers are recommending ‘conditional permission’ for the application, which has seen thousands of objections from Islanders and politicians.

There are 43 conditions attached to the recommended permission (read in full below).

The full extent of the application reads:

The construction, operation and decommissioning of a well site for the exploration and appraisal of hydrocarbon minerals from one exploratory borehole (Arreton-3) and one side-track borehole (Arreton-3z) for a temporary period of three years involving the siting of plant and equipment, the construction of a new access track, a new junction with the Newport to Sandown highway (A3056), the erection of boundary fencing, entrance gates and other ancillary development with restoration to agriculture – revised plans and information relating to means of access and rights of way mitigation measures, site layout, sections and restoration; clarification relating to ecology and environmental health issues; revised location plan/ red line boundary

Campaigners, Don’t Drill The Wight, last week called upon Islanders to email their Ward councillors expressing concerns and support for planning committee members to refuse the application. Details of ward councillors can be found on the Isle of Wight council’s Website.
