Island dancers Anya Murphy and Kenzie Madden have returned from the Dance World Cup with silver medals after impressing judges with their routine at the international competition in Prague.
The pair represented England as part of a group of 15 dancers from the Timestep Academy of Dance based in Cosham.
Thie girls, who both live in Seaview and attend Nettlestone Primary School, performed a routine to ‘One Short Day’ from Wicked the musical in the ‘Mini Large Song & Dance Group’ category.
Rehearsing since January
Anya and Kenzie have been rehearsing weekly since January to prepare for the Dance World Cup, with regular trips to the mainland to train with the England team in Cosham.
On the Island, the girls attend Hilary Hall School of Dance in Ryde and Joel Morris Dance Academy in Shanklin.
Murphy: We are all very proud of the girls
Anya’s mum Nina Murphy said,
“The girls were delighted to bring home a silver medal after their hard work and dedication to rehearsals.
“Their dance teacher, Hilary Hall, was also so pleased that they had the opportunity to go to the Dance World Cup teaming up with Timestep Academy of dance and like me is very, very proud of them both.”
Williams: We are thrilled that their talents were recognised
The pair received travel support from Wightlink. Head of Marketing at Wightlink, David Williams said,
“We were delighted to support the girls with the incredible opportunity to compete at the Dance World Cup in Prague and are thrilled that their talents were recognised with a silver medal – very well deserved.”
Largest, all genre international dance competition
The Dance World Cup is the largest, all genre international dance competition in the world, with representatives from all continents.
Each year more than 20,000 dancers from 62 countries compete at their country’s qualifier to secure a place at the world finals.
