Fanny Quivers on stage at the Two Brewers

Isle of Wight drag performer through to next heat in Drag Idol UK competition

On Tuesday night (3rd May) Isle of Wight drag performer, Fanny Quivers, competed in and won her third open heat for the nationwide drag competition, Drag Idol UK, at the historic Admiral Duncan in Old Compton Street, Soho.

With three entries allowed per act, Tuesday’s show was her third consecutive win at the first stage of heats, with the other two wins secured at The William Morris Bar, Walthamstow, and The Two Brewers, Clapham, in April.

The competition is now in its 17th year, with heats taking place at 17 different venues across the UK, including London, Manchester, Brighton, and Edinburgh.

‘Fabulous, funny, filthy’ and ‘a star’
Previous winners of the competition include RuPaul’s Drag Race UK contestant Baga Chipz who herself was on the judging panel for the heat on Tuesday night, complementing Fanny for being ‘fabulous, funny, filthy’ and ‘a star’.

Following the success at the previous heats, Quivers has already competed in one heat final, gaining the first runner up place, and will compete in the remaining two heat finals later this month.

The Island’s busiest drag queen
Fanny has worked to become the Island’s busiest drag queen over the past year, regularly performing in various locations every month since last May, including frequent sold out shows at her home bar, Bar 74, in Ryde.

She comments:

“This journey so far has been so incredibly fun, if a little bonkers, and makes me so happy to continue to proudly represent the Island that I love alongside wonderfully talented entertainers.”

Quivers: I just love to make people happy and spread some joy
During her ten minute set at The Admiral Duncan this week, Quivers showcased some of her own stand up, including stories about growing up as a farmer’s son on the Isle of Wight, followed by singing and rapping Plan B’s She Said, and also recent hit Montero by Lil Nas X.  Fanny continues,

“I started doing drag because I just love to make people happy, spread some joy, and give people a really good laugh.

“The support I have received from my audiences on the island has been overwhelming and I’m so grateful and excited to see what comes next!”

Keeping busy
Among her other regular weekly shows and appearances, Fanny will also be hosting three contestants from the most recent series of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK when they visit for the Wight Proms in August.
