Isle of Wight Education Federation schools to become academies under HISP Trust

The education federation responsible for Carisbrooke College, Medina College and Island VI Form will be dissolving on Monday 1st July, with the schools joining HISP Multi Academy Trust.

HISP is a multi academy trust serving Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Southampton and Portsmouth. The schools’ executive head teacher, Matthew Parr-Burman, will also be moving on next week to pursue new career opportunities, with interim leadership from HISP stepping in.

Bridgford: Ensuring sustainability and growth for the benefit of the children
Richard Bridgford, chair of governors at the Isle of Wight Education Federation said

“On 11 June 2024 the Governing Board for the Isle of Wight Education Federation made the decision to dissolve the Federation of Carisbrooke College and Medina College, including the Island VI Form, with effect from 1 July 2024.

“This follows a period of consultation and subsequent restructure and reorganisation to ensure that each college has the necessary infrastructure in place to support sustainability and growth for the benefit of its children.”

Mr Bridgforth went on to say,

“On 1 July 2024 Carisbrooke College and Medina College will become academies within HISP Multi Academy Trust. As previously proposed, this will further support the schools’ development and improvement and work is already underway to ensure a smooth transition. Amid these changes, Matthew Parr-Burman has notified the Governing Board that he will be moving on from his position as Executive Headteacher with effect from 1 July to pursue new career opportunities. On behalf of the governors, I would like to wish him well for the future.

“With Matthew’s departure, the Governing Board has agreed that HISP Multi-Academy Trust
will step in with interim leadership arrangements for each school with immediate effect. This will ensure a smooth transition for our schools, staff and, most importantly, our children. We wish to thank all our staff for their professionalism during this period of significant but, we believe, ultimately positive change. We know they will focus on what is fundamentally important to us all – that we deliver excellent education to the students in our care and focus on moving forward.”
