Isle of Wight Green Party are pleased to announce that their candidates for the next General Election have been selected – for the prospective new constituencies of East and West Wight, and the whole Island if an election is called under the current constituency system.
Cameron Palin, an education support assistant from East Cowes and Vix Lowthion, a teacher from Newport, will be standing for the Green Party in East and West Wight respectively.
Cameron’s background
Cameron Palin has been an East Cowes Town Councillor since 2020 and sits on the Corporate Scrutiny Committee at County Hall as the IWALC representative for all local councillors.
He has been actively involved in many Island campaigns since 2017 including saving the Ice Rink in Ryde, calling for a frequent and reliable Floating Bridge and fighting the Conservative council when they tried to close and cut public services such as the Law Centre.
Palin: I am ready to stand up and fight for Isle of Wight East
Cameron said,
“As an island we deserve so much more and so much better than the appalling representation we have had from the conservative MPs in recent years.
“I am ready to stand up and fight for Isle of Wight East, just like I do for East Cowes, and be your first MP for Isle of Wight East.”
Vix’s background
Vix Lowthion is a parent, community councillor, and works as a secondary school teacher in Newport.
After she first stood as a Green Party candidate for MP in the 2015 General Election, the Green vote rose to one of the largest in the whole of the United Kingdom (behind only Brighton and Bristol). This changed her life.
National Education spokesperson
Vix has been the national Education spokesperson for the whole of the Green Party since 2016 and sat on the party’s national executive since 2020.
She has lived in the west of the Isle of Wight for 17 years and volunteers for a number of organisations and campaigns, including Newport Carnival and the NHS at the Riverside Covid Vaccination Centre.
Lowthion: I hope to see you on the doorsteps very soon
Vix said,
“Whenever the next General Election comes, Greens on the Isle of Wight are ready to campaign for even more votes, and win. With Cameron Palin in the East, and myself in the West, plus Green Councillors across the Island, we have an excellent team to lead the Isle of Wight forward into a more sustainable future.
“I’m honoured to have been selected as our Parliamentary candidate again, and thank everyone for their faith and trust in me.
“Now we have to look forward to tackling the social and environmental challenges we face, and I know that with your support we can only grow in strength. I hope to see you on the doorsteps very soon!”
