Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 2,994 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in September 2012.
Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show an increase of 35 since August, which reported 2,959 JSA claimants, and a rise of 27 from September 2011 (2,967).
That means 3.6% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.1% more than the rest of the South East (2.5%), and 0.2% less than the whole of the UK (3.8%).
Jobs available increases
There’s good news on the number of unfilled job available through Jobcentre. September saw 253, 45 more than the previous September.
The number of JSA Claimants per unfilled jobcentre vacancy decreased to 11.8 from 14.3 the year before.
