Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 3,158 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in October 2012.
Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show an increase of 164 since September, which reported 2,994 JSA claimants, and a rise of 22 from October 2011 (3,136).
That means 3.8% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.3% more than the rest of the South East (2.5%), and the same as the whole of the UK (3.8%).
Jobs available increases
There’s good news on the number of unfilled job available through Jobcentre. October saw 327, which makes 107 more than the previous October.
The number of JSA Claimants per unfilled jobcentre vacancy decreased to 9.7 from 14.3 the year before, a drop of 4.6.
