Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 2,959 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in August 2012.
Unemployment Figures Based on figures released by the Office for National Statistics, this is a increase of 22 since July, which showed 2,937 JSA claimants, and a rise of 130 from August 2011 (2,829).
That means 3.5% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1% more than the rest of the South East (2.5%), and 0.3% less than the whole of the UK (3.8%).
