As strong winds battered the Isle of Wight on Wednesday, the forecast of 60-70mph from the Met Office was crashed through, with almost 100mph being recorded at The Needles.
Isle of Wight Met Service report that St Catherine’s Down recorded 81.5mph of wind, whilst Egypt Point in Cowes reached 78.1mph.
On the Eastern coast Culver Down recorded 77.3mph, and Shanklin reached 74mph.
Havoc
The storms saw trees down across the Island, as well as damage to a car on the Floating Bridge after three life rafts flew off the top.
Meanwhile in Sandown, the new fairly new flagpoles were snapped in half and the roof flew off Beach Buoys’ wooden hut.
