Isle of Wight NHS urgently seeking rooms or rentals for new international staff members

The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is urgently seeking rental rooms and properties for NHS professionals working on the Island, as it looks forward to welcoming 59 new international team members in the coming months up to February 2022.

From junior doctors on rotation and healthcare professionals working away from home to international recruits such as nurses, radiographers and physiotherapists, available accommodation is really important to be able to support staff working on the frontline.

Tax-free rental scheme
The Trust is urging those with spare rooms to consider renting them out, with monthly rent including the room and all bills not exceeding £450. The Trust will support hosts in welcoming their new house member to ensure they settle in OK.

Those who are able to help, may be eligible for the Government’s Rent a Room Scheme – this scheme lets people earn up to a maximum of £7,500 per year tax-free from letting out furnished accommodation in their home.

Finding it really difficult to secure accommodation
Jackie Humphries, Resourcing Manager said,

“Throughout the year we support our staff and potential employees to find rental rooms and accommodation that is suitable and convenient for them, but this year we are finding it really difficult to find any local accommodation which is a real issue, particularly for people who work shifts and need to stay close to the hospital.

“We hope those who weren’t aware that we are in need of accommodation will now come forward to both support a NHS worker and earn themselves some extra money. Rental rooms can be made available for a few weeks to a few months, while a team member looks for more permanent accommodation. If someone has a house available please consider coming to us first before going to a letting agency.”

Furnished rooms and houses
The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is looking for a range of accommodation from rental rooms in people’s homes to houses to accommodate families and preferably properties that are furnished.

Accommodation in Newport or surrounding areas with good bus links is preferred, but not essential.
