Isle of Wight Conservative MP, Bob Seely, has welcomed the news that the Isle of Wight council is set to benefit from £1.2 million of funding from the government to ensure children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and alternative provision (AP) receive an education that meets their needs in high-quality environments for the years to come.
Creating new SEND places
The money comes as part of a £850 million pot of funding the government is giving to councils across the country to create new places for young people with SEND and AP in mainstream and special schools.
The money will provide specialist support for children with autism, learning difficulties, mobility difficulties, and more to meet their extra needs.
Seely: The right environment and support is crucial
Welcoming the announcement, Mr Seely said,
“I am pleased to see that the government is investing £1.2 million into Island education to help meet the needs of children with SEND.
“I want every child on the Isle of Wight to have the same opportunity to meet their potential.
“The right environment and support is crucial to that.”
