An innovative community initiative kicks off on the Isle of Wight next Monday (21st March).
Isle of Wight Soup is a fascinating and inspiring idea that aims to help those working for the benefit of the local community.
The event, being held at Aspire in Ryde, invites Islanders to come along, share ideas, enjoy a bowl soup, debate and then vote on their favourite.
‘Simple and direct’ idea
One of the organisers, Joe Redston, told OnTheWight,
“I’d been looking for an idea to get involved with for a while.
“We set it up (there’s a few of us involved) because we loved how simple and direct it is.
“People pitch; they get the money; and it goes straight back to the local area.
“The audience can see the people pitching, and will know where their donations have gone.”
Pitching next week
The idea originates in Detroit in the US, but many similar schemes have been set up elsewhere with great success.
The four groups pitching on the Isle of Wight on Monday are:
- 2nd Ryde Sea Scouts
- Ryde Skatepark
- Artist, Paradox Paul
- Cassie’s Care 4 Pets Veterinary Fund
Be part of it
There is a suggested donation of £4 on the door. So why not pop along on Monday (from 6pm) listen to the four ideas that will benefit the Island, enjoy soup while you think and chat, vote for your favourite idea.
Head to Aspire, Dover Street, Ryde on Monday 21st March for a 6pm start. There’ll be live music on the night.
