The Isle of Wight and speedway in general is mourning the loss of the Warriors team manager, Steve Piper, who passed away in his sleep over the weekend.
Steve had been in charge of the Island team for a few years leading them to winning trophies in the last few years.
He always had a bubbly and humorous way in life and will no doubt not only be missed at the Island, but at Poole, where he was a regular following the Pirates for many years.
“He will be sorely missed by us all”
Promoters Barry Bishop and Martin Widman said,
“We are all so shocked and saddened by this.
“Steve was a person who never gave up, despite many challenges, who was an inspiration to many of us and a great leader.
“He was also extremely talented and a man, who despite several set backs, was always positive and a true inspiration to wheelchair users.
“Everybody sends their heartfelt condolences to his son George, and all of his family and friends.
“He will be sorely missed by us all.”
