Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra to kick off new season with Berlioz and Bruckner at Medina Theatre

The Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra (IWSO) begin their new season at the Medina Theatre on Saturday November 2nd with the concert starting at 7.15pm.

The concert will open with the Hungarian March by Hector Berlioz. Originally composed as a stand alone piece for a visit to Hungary, Berlioz later incorporated the piece in his work “The Damnation of Faust”.

Pianist Ignas Maknickas
Before the interval the orchestra will be joined by pianist Ignas Maknickas for a performance of the second piano concerto by Shostakovich.

International star Ignas was born in America but brought up in Lithuania. He is now based in London and has a very full concert diary. He is looking forward to perform this exciting concerto with the IWSO.

Bruckner’s epic fourth Symphony
After the interval there will be one piece, the epic fourth Symphony ‘The Romantic’ by Anton Bruckner. Bruckner was born 200 years ago so this will be a wonderful way to celebrate his bi-centenary.
