This week marks National Young Farmers Week, running from 7th to 11th October 2024. Across the country, young people are celebrating their involvement in agriculture, rural life, and community service.
The theme for this year’s campaign is inclusivity, reminding everyone that “YFC is for everyone!” You don’t need to come from a farming background to join the Young Farmers Club (YFC); all you need is an interest in agriculture, animals or the outdoors.
A club open to all
Membership to YFC is open to those aged 10-28, with clubs meeting at least twice a month. It’s a great way for young people to make new friends, meet others with shared interests and learn more about rural life.
Young Farmers isn’t just about learning, though. It’s also about having fun, as members engage in a variety of activities, from farming education to social events.
Supporting the Isle of Wight Foodbank
As part of this year’s campaign, the Isle of Wight Young Farmers have been giving back to their local community. Over the past few weeks, members of the club have gathered donations for the Isle of Wight Foodbank.
In total, the club collected 221 items, which will go directly to those in need within the rural community. It’s an effort that aligns perfectly with the club’s ethos of supporting rural life and giving back.
National Young Farmers Week is a reminder of the important role these clubs play in connecting young people with their communities, while promoting inclusivity and rural engagement.
