Last weekend saw the launch of Brave Island’s Isle of Wight Young Artist Award.
The annual competition is now in its third year and each year has seen the number of entries grow.
Artwork from a 41 young artists is now on display at Quay Arts Centre in Newport for the next three and a half weeks, adorning the cafe walls, as well as filling the Jenny Clayden gallery.
And the winner is …
Saturday’s launch was buzzing with activity as young artists and their families filled Quay Arts to see the artwork in person and find out who had been selected as Isle of Wight Young Artist of the Year.

Special mentions went to George Gladdis, Lola Parsons and Nancy Tillman, but the shortlist of three artists was announced as Elsie Calder, Rose Fennell and Austin Carroll.
Elsie Calder, who has three pieces hanging in the Jenny Clayden Gallery was crowned the winner.
The quality of the work by all the young artists was outstanding and well worth a visit to see in person.
Listen to our conversation
It was very busy in the galleries, but we managed to grab a couple of minutes with Elsie after she received her award. She explained the meaning behind the artwork and encouraged other young artists to get involved next year.
