Medina Marching Band at the Lord Mayors Show

Isle of Wight’s Medina Marching Band to perform alongside Royal Marines at London Band Week (updated)

Congratulations are in order for one of the Isle of Wight’s marching bands.

On New Year’s Day it was announced that Medina Marching Band have been invited to take part in London Band Week 2023 (1st – 2nd July) .

The festival takes place across a number of venues and the band will be performing at the London Tattoo at London’s Excel Centre, the Palace Parade review in the King’s Garden at Hampton Court Palace, as well as at Drumline London.

Vice Chair, Kevin Downer, told News OnTheWight,

“This is a big event for the band participating alongside some of the UK’s best Youth Marching  Bands, as well as Bands of HM Royal Marines, plus two college bands from the USA.

“The University of Tennessee Bands – Pride of the Southland Band – will be bringing a 350 strong band all the way from the USA. 

“We are proud to be representing the Isle of Wight at another prestigious event.”

Medina Marching Band
Medina Marching Band was founded in 1976 by the late George Urry. Over the years the band has enjoyed many competitive successes and is a welcome sight at parades, shows and events across the country.

The band is made up of young people from various backgrounds with a mixed musical knowledge. Wearing unmistakable red jackets, white helmets and caps, the band caters for novice students and experienced players alike.

They share a desire the to play a musical instrument and strive to follow the traditional marching band style. See their Website for more information.
