Isle of Wight’s The Pill debuts ‘Woman Driver’ music video with a message

Isle of Wight punk band, The Pill, have released the music video for their latest single, Woman Driver.

The group, who released their third single last month, have also announced a homecoming show at Strings Bar and Venue, following a plethora of dates around the UK and Europe throughout this year.

They’ll take to the stage at the Newport venue on Thursday, 30th January 2025.

They will also perform on the main stage at the 2025 edition of Victorious Festival, on a bill with The Last Dinner Party and Nelly Furtado.

New single
Woman Driver is a short, but loud song that questions what is wrong with being a female driver.

Sharing the role of lead vocalist are Lily Hutchings and Lottie Massey, who also play guitar and bass, respectively.

Joining the pair, on drums, is Rufus Reader.

Critical acclaim
The single follows the success of October’s Scaffolding Man and April’s Bale of Hay, both of which were praised by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Steve Lamacq.

Woman Driver was recorded at Newport’s Empire Studios and produced by Rob and Jim Homes, also known as BOEWEAVER.

It was then mastered at Metropolis Studios in London and released by the record label, AWAL.

“You can’t please everyone!”
Speaking about the new single, The Pill said,

“Woman Driver is an anthem for every girly who freaks out when she realises she can’t parallel park, hits the curb, T-Totals someone else’s car… own it girl!

“You can’t please everyone!”

Back in June, The Pill drew a large crowd to their set at the Isle of Wight Festival.

Since then, they have played at venues and festivals all across Europe.

In 2025, they will also appear at MOMO Festival in The Netherlands and Focus Wales in Wrexham.

A better use of the £500K would have been to brick up the entrance to this money pit. Around a £100K a year loss for something that pretty much exclusively benefits two families.

Err are you sure? What about those who have to put up with the pong to get to the best fresh fish on the island , those who come to Ventnor as tourists and whose visit & spend (in local stores) is curtailed by not wishing to endure the stench of rotting seaweed, the local businesses who have to explain the smell to their customers and who… Read more »

So the previous article tells us that Sean Newton at IWC oversaw this. The same person that project managed the floating bridge

It is a shame that the council has not invited the Probation Office to arrange for the clearing of the seaweed from the harbour! I would have thought that it would have been an easy job for them to supervise people doing community service orders to do the required work at low tide. It just needs a few plastic rakes and large plastic boxes to bring the… Read more »

4 months ago it was reported that “As part of the contract costs in the current 2022/23 financial year, the council has given a £40,000 ‘contribution’ to Cheetah Marine. A council spokesperson said it would go towards vessel refurbishment.” Will this be refunded? Or is this a further, unchallenged and poker faced drain on funds?
