Figures for unemployed claimants came out this morning which show that 1,970 people on the Isle of Wight were claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) in December 2014.
Unemployment Benefit figures released by the Office for National Statistics show an increase of 162 since November 2014, which reported 1,808 JSA claimants, and a fall of 1,110 from December 2013 (3,080).
That means 2.4% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 1.2% more than the rest of the South East (1.2%), and 0.5% more than the whole of the UK (1.9 %).
