Further to the previous problems with melting roads on the Island, the Isle of Wight council have just made a pre-emptive announcement regarding Isle of Wight roads. In their own words. Ed
Due to the current high temperatures, it is possible that the council may have to once again apply granite chippings to some Island roads during the course of the day and, if required, over the weekend.
This process, if necessary, should ensure all roads remain open although there may be some delays while the granite chippings are laid.
Apology for inconvenience
We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. The work is being carried out at the expense of the contractors.
We will publicise the location of any necessary work throughout the day.
Work to bring about a more permanent solution will be undertaken – again at the expense of our contractors – after the summer season.
