Following John Farrant, ex-town clerk of Ventnor, declaring the recent Audit investigation into practices of the Town Council and Winter Gardens “unethical,” we got in touch with the council to give them an opportunity to respond.
We’ve had their statement in this afternoon, which says
“The audit was prepared by highly experienced auditors who stand by the recommendations contained in the report.
“The draft report was presented to Ventnor Town Council and we understand copies were then circulated to relevant parties before it was published.”
Is questioning normal or not?
The question that has been raised the most is ‘Why wasn’t John Farrant interviewed?’ Is it that auditors don’t as a rule interview people? That instead they are there to follow a paper trail, not speak to people?
We don’t know the answer even after reading the Wikipedia explanation, so we’ve posed the question to the council.
We’ll let you know when we hear back.
