Isle of Wight Labour councillor for Newport East, Geoff Lumley (pictured right), was one of many from the Isle of Wight who made the trip to London on Saturday to take part in a huge anti-austerity march (more here).
He wasn’t the only councillor from the Isle of Wight to attend the march however. Along with many residents Leader of the Isle of Wight council, Cllr Jonathan Bacon (pictured left) also took part.
Lumley: “Good for Jonathan Bacon”
Cllr Lumley shared the following with OnTheWight this morning. He said,
“In my 27 years of political and trade union activity on the Island, I have NEVER been on a demo with a Leader of the Council before.
“Good for Jonathan Bacon – perhaps symbolising just how dreadfully the Government’s so-called ‘austerity’ is going to hit local Councils in the next four years.”
He went on to say,
“Something is happening on the Isle of Wight.”
Cllr Bacon is also seen pictured with Mark Chiverton, the Council’s Unison Secretary.
