Isle of Wight Labour Party members congratulated Ed Miliband on his stance on MPs’ second jobs at their monthly meeting last Thursday.
The Labour Leader has said that Labour MPs will not accept any paid directorships or consultancies in the new Parliament after the May general election.
Members also voted to support the proposal that MPs should not earn more than 15% above their normal salary each year from other areas of employment.
Ed Gouge, the Constituency Party’s Secretary said,
“Being an MP is more than a full time job and MPs should devote their full attention to that and talking to people from areas in society. The best way to have MPs with knowledge of the outside world is for a wider range of people to become Parliamentary candidates.
“Our own candidate, Stewart Blackmore, for example has that experience from working as a junior chef in a busy kitchen to becoming a manager in the hospitality industry.”
