Better shed than dead

Better Shed Than Dead: A film about the Men’s Shed Movement

Thanks to Tony for sharing details of this free event. Ed

“Better Shed than Dead”, is a 46 minute documentary about the Men’s Shed movement.

Filmed throughout 2014 the film examines the rise of a spontaneous social phenomenon which began in Australia and is spreading globally.

Over one million men in the UK suffer from chronic loneliness and social isolation. By accessing community sheds, they can work on projects, develop skills and make new friends. The health benefits to themselves and their communities are obvious. So why are there nearly a thousand sheds in Australia, 220 in Ireland, yet barely 100 in the UK?

Tackling loneliness and isolation
As a group we are aware of the many issues facing elder members of our community. This event gives local people and agencies the opportunity to see how one project has successfully tackled loneliness and isolation and an opportunity to discuss how we can improve the lives better of older residents of Ventnor.

At The Green Room, Salisbury Gardens, Dudley Road, Ventnor, PO38 1EJ on Tuesday 17th March 10.00am
