Staff at the cash-strapped Carisbrooke College and Medina Colleges may lose their jobs as the Governing Body confirm they’ve entered into discussions with a small number of support staff.
These discussions could result in their posts becoming redundant, say the Governors.
Mark Chiverton of Unison said they would be working with the Colleges to make sure the redundancy process was handled properly.
Fixed budgets and rising costs
Joe Finch, Chair of the Governing Body, told OnTheWight,
“We have had to take a decision to review our support staff structure, as we, like all other educational establishments nationally are faced with ‘flat cash’ budget settlements and increasing costs.
“Recent Ofsted inspections have confirmed the improving education standards we deliver to all our students and we recognised the need to ensure that this continues within an affordable financial envelope.
“We have met with our local Staff Side representatives and have fully briefed them about the discussions that have commenced.”
