Figures for unemployed claimants came out on Wednesday (when our broadband was down) and we see another rise in the number of Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) claimants on the Isle of Wight.
According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of residents claiming Job Seekers Allowance on the Island rose to 3,964 in January 2012.
This is a hike of 292 since December, which showed 3,672 JSA claimants and up 390 from January 2011 (3,574).
4.7% of the resident population of area aged 16-64 is claiming JSA – 2 percent more than the rest of the South East (2.7%), and 0.7% more than the whole of the UK (4.0%).
