As part of their look at the salaries of council chief executives, The Sunday Telegraph published an article on the latest figures last weekend.
The online article included an interactive table of council bosses’ salaries, so we naturally scrolled down the list see where on the table the Isle of Wight fell.
Quite far down by all accounts, but it did have a surprise for us.
Joe Duckworth still in IWC employ?
According to the article’s authors, Joe Duckworth received a CEO salary from the Isle of Wight for 2009/10 and 2010/11 totalling £368,053.
Come again?
The normally-thorough Telegraph have dropped the ball on their section on the Island.
Joe’s long-gone
Joe Duckworth left the council’s employ way back in 2008 when he moved onto Newham, becoming one of the UK’s highest paid council employees. Since then, he’s left Newham to become head of the League Against Cruel Sports.
If you think that it looks like The Telegraph have got Steve Beynon’s salary incorrect too, they haven’t. They’ve put the total costs of Steve’s package in there, which include his pension contributions – £32,999 in the year 2010/11.
Let’s hope we’re not paying twice for our chief executives. Surely one salary is more than enough!
