Back in August at the IW CamRA Pub and Beer of the Year Awards we shared a (half) pint with John Nicholson, Chairman of IW CamRA (that’s the Campaign for Real Ale in case you didn’t realise).
As an offical CamRA taster, John knows a thing or two about real ale. A fan of fruit beers, John savored the flavour of a fruity Belgium as we supped yet another of the fantastic Welsh ales on offer for the Yarbridge Inn Beer Festival.
With over 200 active members on the Island, the IW branch of CamRA enjoys one of the highest response rates in the country. For the Pub and Beer Awards a whopping 25%+ made their views known on which pub and beer they felt should take the awards.
Anyone who appreciates a good pint will know that Independent pubs really flourish on the Island and the IW CamRA see it as their role to help support them and the local breweries.
John has more to say on the role of CamRA, the changing habits of drinking, the importance of a good water source for brewers, the future of pubs on the Island, the collaboration with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary mixed in with many interesting anecdotes.
Why not grab yourself a cup of tea (or a pint) and sit back to listen to what he has to say.
He’s a lovely chap who was an absolute pleasure to chat to. [audio:http://otw-audio.s3.amazonaws.com/camra-pub-of-year-john-nicholson.mp3]
