John Phillips, founder of John’s Club, emphasised the importance of this event. He stated,

“We will be discussing the problems that people with learning disabilities, disabilities, and mental health issues face.”

The primary question for candidates to address is:

“If elected, what would you do as our MP to address the problems and barriers that people living with learning disabilities, disabilities, and mental health issues are currently facing on the Isle of Wight?”

Structure of the events
The hustings (one for East and one for West) will feature each candidate making an opening statement lasting five minutes.

This will be followed by a question and answer session with the audience.

To conclude, each candidate will provide a closing statement.

Event details
The East hustings will take place at the John’s Club centre, located at Oakfield Football Club, 5 Slade Road, Ryde, PO33 1EG on Tuesday, 18th June, from 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

There was a plan to hold West hustings at Newport Congregational Church on Thursday 20th June from 6:30pm until 8:30pm, but due to poor take-up from candidates, this has been cancelled.

John Phillips will chair the events, ensuring a structured and informative discussion.

Encouraging community participation
Members of John’s Club will form part of the audience. However, all are welcome to attend.

“The more the better,” Phillips encouraged, hoping for a large turnout to discuss these critical issues.
