Organisers of this Saturday’s Carbon Cycle Celebration are keen to see as many cyclists as possible at their event in Newport.
A mass bike ride is planned with the intention of everyone using their bells for the Cycle Bell Symphony. If cyclists from across the Island join in, this could be quite a spectacle.
Organiser Tanja Rebel told VB, “One of the main aims of the event is to show what Newport could be like if there were less cars in the town centre. Part of St James Street (adjacent to the square) is going to be closed off in an attempt to make it into a real liveable and breathable square! One day hopefully Newport town centre will become a real liveable and breathable place.”
Lots more planned throughout the day
There’ll be masses on during the day, with live music from Lucid, Mick Watson and Fat Samba, BMX stunt show by Andrei Burton, talks, vintage bicycles and Dan Roberts will even be bringing down his amazing Wooden Trike.
VB readers will remember the handmade trike that has travelled to across Spain and back again.
The event takes place in St James’ Square from 11am with the mas bike ride taking place at 3pm. Full details of schedule on Events OnTheWight.
