Jonathan Bacon, the cabinet member in charge of schools, has resigned from his position as cabinet member, according to the County Press.
The CP say the leader of Isle of Wight council, Phil Jordan, informed them “that Councillor Bacon informed him of his decision verbally”.
In Councillor Bacon’s absence tonight (Thursday), cabinet members voted to go ahead with planned closure of Cowes and Arreton Primary schools. Wroxall, Brading and Oakfield were saved from closure.
OnTheWight has contacted Councillor Bacon for clarification and will update once we hear more.
Councillor Bacon has advised that he will be issuing a statement on Friday.
