Background – Kashmir Café
Quay Arts works with local musicians throughout the year and relishes the opportunity to showcase their talent on a professionally run stage at such a major festival. Kashmir Cafe presents a distinctive offer of excellent local music and Isle of Wight brewed real ale housed in a beautiful, traditional marquee.
Rachel Day, Quay Arts’ Project Manager for Live Events said,
“We really celebrate the best of the Isle of Wight. The vast majority of Kashmir Cafe performers have worked with us throughout the year as part of Quay Arts’ regular showcase nights, Acoustic Originals, many of who attend Platform One Music College.
“We also bring more established acts from further afield and I think because of Kashmir’s great atmosphere performers have such a good time they nearly always want to come back. We’re supported by so many competent and professional local organisations and individuals whose involvement really makes Kashmir the amazing, energetic environment it has become.”
She continued,
“By developing Kashmir Fringe we’re planning to inject the winter with a little bit of that magical festival vibe, with all the energy and dedication that goes into delivering Kashmir Cafe at the Isle of Wight Festival. Quay Arts has some amazing spaces in which to house the Fringe and to showcase and develop all that incredible musical talent that we bring to the stage at Kashmir Café in the summer.”
Kashmir on Camera
Previewing on Sunday 23rd February in the Rope Store Gallery is Lucy Boynton’s ‘Camera on Kashmir’ exhibition featuring carefully selected photographs from the Isle of Wight Festival and Kashmir Café.
Boynton captures powerful and enigmatic images that show great promise to stand the test of time. Quay Arts is proud to support Lucy, an Island photographer, in her first exhibition through the Open Up Scheme.
‘Camera on Kashmir’ preview is Sunday 23rd February 7-11pm and the exhibition opens on Monday 24th February and runs for 6 weeks until Saturday 12th April 2014.
