The Isle of Wight Council has recently launched a campaign to encourage residents to help look after the waste and recycling collection crew during the winter months.
Natasha Dix, the council’s strategic manager for the environment, said,
“This Christmas, we’re asking residents to help keep our collection crew safe when carrying out their job on the Island’s roads.”
She added that the winter months can present challenges for the waste and recycling teams, with unpredictable weather and reduced visibility.
How you can help
To help look after the collection crew, residents are being asked to put their bins or sacks out on the kerbside from 7am on their day of collection, and to make sure their property front is clear of trip hazards.
They are also being encouraged to cut back overhanging trees or bushes to allow collection vehicles to pass safely and to be patient if there is a collection vehicle in front of them.
Lucioni: Everyone should return home safely from work after their shift
Cllr Karen Lucioni, Cabinet lead for waste and recycling, said,
“The safety of those working on the roads, other road users as well as pedestrians is always a top priority.
“Everyone should return home safely from work after their shift and everyone has a part to play in ensuring the safety of others and making this happen.”
