Newport born heptathlete Kelly Sotherton’s injury woes continue with the announcement today of her withdrawal from this weekend’s UK Indoor Grand Prix event at Birmingham.
This time citing a heel injury, the 32 year old Olympic medalist is said to be “gutted” at having to pull out, this following a series of fitness and injury problems over the past year.
Kelly sustained a back injury at a Grand Prix in Glasgow last month and didn’t feature in the high jump at Sheffield as a precaution because of a recurrence of a hip problem.
The Island’s most popular athlete reportedly has no belly button, but clearly does not lack backbone.
She’s insistent that a few days rest and some specialist treatment will have her back in shape in time for the European Indoor Championships in Turin at the beginning of March.
