Chris Bull Attempts To Kite Surf Around the Wight

We read yesterday in BYM Sailing & Sports News about a forthcoming attempt by Chris Bull to circumnavigate the Isle of Wight by kite surfing anticlockwise around it. Chris is hoping to raise cash for the RNLI in the process.

Chris, a member of the FatFace team previously attempted the world record in 2004, but annoyingly got 90% of the way around the Island and had to abandon his attempt due to a lack of wind.

He’s planning the circumnavigation attempt for the week of 17th March (depending on the wind) and tells us that …

“no one has achieved this before and I am hoping it will make it into the Guinness Book of Records.”

The route is well over 90km in distance and is very difficult to achieve, due to lots of varying conditions with wind speed, wind quality, tide, currents and navigating around the Island, plus the physical endurance of kite surfing for over six hours. Phew!

He states in the BYM article that he has chosen the RNLI because …

They do a fantastic job and provide an invaluable service on our coastlines and as a volunteer lifeboat crew member myself it is a charity I feel very passionate about. I feel I owe it to myself to try it again the fact that I had to abort the challenge so close to the finish last time.

Chris also runs his own Kite surfing business, so we guess he must know what he’s doing.

Best of luck Chris and we’ll be looking out for you in the next week or so.
