The Isle of Wight council’s Environmental Health investigation – after guests at a Shanklin hotel all reported coming down with food poisoning/sickness bug – continues, but it is emerging that the cause may not be as the guests first thought.
More than a dozen visitors staying at the Langham Court Hotel in Shanklin over the bank holiday weekend, say that they came down with 24-hours of sickness/food poisoning following their stay.
The Hotelier, Mrs Colson, has now told News OnTheWight,
“Environmental Health Inspectors have been in and inspected the hotel kitchen and rooms and have found nothing wrong and said we can continue to trade.”
Environmental Health Inspectors are now looking into other sources.
Colson: Only group out of 80 to be taken ill
Mrs Colson also told News OnTheWight,
“There were 80 guests at the hotel for the weekend and only this group have said they were taken ill.
“They had only breakfast at the hotel and ate out at various places during the day, also 14 of them went for a meal at the same restaurant perhaps that could be the cause of the problem?”
Stern: Hotel went out of their way to to make us feel welcome
One of the scooterists staying at the hotel, Cathy Stern told News OnTheWight,
“I would like to say that the proprietors at The Langham went out of their way to to make us feel welcome, and cater to our early departure on Monday morning, in addition to allowing us to bring food back to eat in the dining room from various local takeaways next to the hotel.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if the illness turns out to be viral, but we must allow environmental health to make their investigation and draw a conclusion.”
Mrs Colson confirmed,
“We still have guests here who stayed at the weekend and have had no problems.”
Stern: Grateful for budget hotels
Cathy went on to say,
“Happily, my experience on the Island was mostly very positive after a 40 year return, and I’m grateful that budget hotels still exist for those on a limited budget. Fingers crossed for a clean bill of health for the Langham Court Hotel.”
“During interview stage of one of our Club members, Norovirus has been mentioned by Environmental Health as most likely cause.”
