The South East is set to benefit from improved walking and cycling opportunities thanks to new funding from the Department for Transport (DfT).
Transport for the South East has confirmed that over £31.5 million from the Active Travel Capability Fund 2024/25 will be allocated to local authorities across the South East region.
Investment in active travel
They say the funding will support a range of projects, including the development of new walkways and cycle paths, upgraded crossings and junctions and cycle training for school children.
These improvements aim to enhance safety, accessibility and convenience for those who choose to walk, cycle, or use wheeled transport in their daily journeys.
A step towards greener, healthier communities
Investing in active travel plays a key role in improving connectivity and reducing carbon emissions.
Beyond transport benefits, these changes are expected to bring social, environmental, and health advantages to communities across the South East.
Last chance to have your say on transport priorities
Residents and commuters still have time to share their views on the draft Transport Strategy for the region – which closes at 23.59 on Friday 7th March 2025.
Four more pop-up events will take place in Guildford, Wokingham, Ryde and Hastings over the coming weeks.
The Ryde event will be held at St Thomas’s Square on 28th February from 11am.
Take part in the consultation
Those unable to attend in person can still contribute by completing the online survey on the Transport for the South East website.
This is an opportunity for people to influence future transport plans and ensure local priorities are reflected in the strategy.
