Thanks to Tom for this latest report. Ed
The second in Ryde Harriers 2015 track series saw so large a field turn up for the 1500m race that two events were run. The first race was won by Trevor McAlister who attacked the first lap with the kind of relish that a good 1500m race requires and held a large lead to finish just under six minutes.
The real battle was going on behind as IWAC’s junior Millie Bacon led out Rosie Eldrige and finished very strongly to hold her off whilst Samantha Fancourt delayed her run for home too late to catch Rosie with her fine finish. Rosie’s time of 6:04 was the fastest for a senior woman on the night.
Close win for Blackwell
The second race saw a great battle for the lead with Tom Blackwell just managing to hold off Simon Newman’s relentless challenge. Tom finished in 4:46 whilst Simon crossed the line in 4:50 with Wight Tri’s Keith Curwood third in 5:03.
Further back the quickest junior on the night was Ben Timmons from IWAC whose time of 5:17 was enough to beat fellow IWAC junior Ellie Bacon (5:23).
Up next
The next track race is the first 3000m of the season next Tuesday starting at 7:30pm sharp whilst the multi-terrain programme continues at Ryde rowing club for non-track runners with guests very welcome at both.
