The exhibition showcases the works of emerging artists Laura Hathaway and Howard Hardiman.
Pieces are formed from extensive creative dialogue and exploratory discussions focusing around the subconscious, ritual, geometry and form. Laura’s psychological, minimalist sculptural pieces and Howard’s prints and paintings play against one another – a meticulous, obsessive process and transformation uniting their works.
Start-Up Studio
Funded by Arts Council England, Laura Hathaway and Howard Hardiman have been working alongside each other on a yearlong residency titled Start-Up Studio.
Aimed at building the sector of artists and makers on the Isle of Wight, the projects objective is to support new creative businesses whilst retaining and nurturing talent on the Island.
With mentoring throughout from art advisor Jonathan Parsons and Quay Art’s Visual Arts Project Manager Georgia Newman, the artists have worked towards a joint exhibition ‘Line & Shade’.
Start-Up Studio was an initiative set up by Quay Arts for two artists sharing a free studio space at Jubilee Stores with access to creative mentoring, educational training and funding. In addition, the artists were recently awarded a further Arts Council England grant financing the production of work and supporting the costs of the five-week exhibition.
