You’ve got to hand it to music promoters on the Isle of Wight, they do love to shower us with live music events at every opportunity. And we love them for it too!
With the Isle of Wight Festival and PozFest soon out of the way, you’ll only have a few more weeks to wait before the first Legends in the Park takes place.
The day long event, which kicks off in the early afternoon of 16th July at George’s Park in Newport, features live music from at least eight bands, with Fun Lovin Criminals (FLC) headlining.
Fronted by Huey Morgan (who’s been great to listen to on 6Music btw), the three-piece from New York bring with them a mashup of hip hop, rock, funk, blues and jazz. Currently on tour, Legends in the Park will provide a great warm-up for FLC before they head off to V Festival.
Some GLC with your FLC sir?
Update 14.07.11: Organisers advise that the entire band will not be playing, two members will DJing and mingling with the festival-goers throughout the day.
Who better to share the lineup with FLC than GLC. We’re referring of course to Welsh scamps, Goldie Lookin Chain.
A bit bigger than a three piece, GLC will be bringing at least eight band members with them and are guaranteed to cheer up the festival audience with their own special comedic style of rap. Youknowsit.
Last time they appeared at a football ground it ended in controversy after they dedicated ‘Your Missus Is a Nutter’ to David Beckham whilst his dear lady, Victoria, sat looking on at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.
And the list goes on ….
Update 14.07.11: We’re hearing that Chipmunk is now longer confirmed to play.
British rapper from Tottenham (Up The Spurs), I Am Chipmunk will be adding to the list of acts crossing the Solent for the first Legends in the Park.
He’ll be joined by the Island’s very own hip hop band, Born In A Barn are sure to please the crowd with their intelligent and witty observations on Island life.
London four piece, The Foxes, will be satisfying all those with a hankering for indie rock. Described as “Gritty and jaunty rock’n’roll with some spry and cheeky lyrical leanings…” by Brighton Source, we’re sure they’ll pick up many new fans on the Island.
Island band, Council Estate Supermodels continue to go from strength to strength and pack a great punch with their live performances. They’ll be joined by Vanzatti, The Operators and Twenty Twenty.
At least two more bands are yet to be confirmed to complete the lineup for this day long mini-music festival.
We understand that the site will be transformed with fairground rides and the usual festival paraphernalia.
Tickets just £25
Tickets are just £25 in advance or £30 on the door (this looks likely to sell out so best to book in advance) and are available from Visual Impact and House Of Legends in Newport or Ticketline.
