Thanks very much to Chris and Jeanie Brown from the Ventnor Theatre Group for the following piece about the upcoming performance of Les Miserables. It sounds like it’ll be a superb performance and it would be great for Ventnor (and the Island) to show their support for all the hard work.
Don’t know whether you’ve seen Les Miserables, but I would say that if anyone were to see just one musical in a lifetime, it should be this one. It’s really powerful stuff. The musicality in this show is outstanding. There is something for everyone. It’s not at all glitzy, just powerful emotions, greed, generosity, truth, lies, violence, tenderness, hate, love, the lot. There’s an amazing battle scene.
The basic story is the fight against poverty, but entwined in this is an entangled love story. It’s set in France in the 1800s, and we have tried to authenticate the scenery and costumes as much as possible. This musical would also appeal to all ages, because of it’s involved content. We have an amazing cast, some of the performances are almost West End quality, mostly all of the principal parts are covered by musical theatre students. We also have a twenty piece orchestra.
We believe this will be one of the best musicals ever performed on the Island. We hope that people don’t judge it by the title. It’s a brilliant show, at a ridiculously low price for the amount of work that’s involved. I hope the people of Ventnor will put themselves out to see this show. As it looks at the moment it’s selling more tickets than any other show we have performed at the Winter Gardens, so it’s probably best to get tickets in advance. The fact really that Les Miserables is the longest running musical ever speaks for the quality of this show. It’s also been performed in 15 different languages.
