This from Harry, a 30-year-old nurse from Newport. Ed
As election time approaches, there are lots of news stories and ideas flying around.
My advice? Let’s vote as an Island.
Why?
In my opinion, we have had a stale, useless Tory MP for too long. We desperately need a change.
The Island is full of beauty, community and opportunity, we need representatives who celebrate the Island, and fight for better services and clean seas!
What does this mean locally?
A massive benefit of the Island splitting into two constituencies is that for the first time our two best candidates are not standing against each other (Vix Lowthion and Richard Quigley).
Richard is by far the best candidate for Isle of Wight West, and is best placed to beat Bob Seely.
Likewise, Vix is by far the best candidate on the East, and is best placed to beat Joe Robertson.
Let’s be smart, an Island MP will represent the whole Island, and what better pair than Richard and Vix.
National data ignores local context
National data cannot help us in our new seats. National vote swing completely ignores local context, we need to look at local data.
Vix has won the East Wight Primary hands down, and has topped all local polls. She is very popular on the doorstep and is the best progressive vote for East.
Richard likewise is winning local hustings and is the best shot for west.
Let’s vote swap
I dislike tactical voting on the whole, but for the Island it makes sense. A good Island MP is good for us all.
That’s why as a green voter I will vote for a Richard as I live I west, and I ask labour voters to do the same and vote Vix in the east.
If we are smart, and united, we can have a brighter future together. Let’s do this!
