Dover Street, ryde on a sunny day with blue sky and Portsmouth in the background

Letter: Southern Vectis – Please add a temporary bus stop in Dover Street while St John’s Hill is closed (updated)

This from Ann Kay, Ryde. Ed

Can you contact Southern Vectis to find out why they couldn’t be bothered to add a temporary bus stop at Dover Street, Ryde, when Monkton Street and St John’s Station’s stop going towards Sandown and Shanklin are out of action due to the closure of St John’s Hill until 5th May.

The options they have offered are The Commodore Cinema or Ryde Fire Station.

The buses have to go along Dover Street, so one temporary stop going out of the town would help those families, elderly people and workers who use the lower Ryde bus stops.

Post Covid walk exhausting
I am particularly angry because I was admitted to hospital due to Covid ten days ago and have just returned to work so the additional long walk is exhausting me before I’ve even managed to do a day’s work.

Southern Vectis fares are some of the highest in the country and their services are pitiful, to say the least.

Can’t be bothered to offer an interim alternative
They are meant to offer a decent service and with the additional issue of Lake Hill’s closure, the number 2 and 3 services are not good presently, but this situation seems that they can’t be bothered to at least attempt to offer an interim alternative.

A very, angry and disgruntled customer.

Southern Vectis have confirmed this morning that there is now a temporary bus stop in a safe location on Park Road – before turning into Dover Street.
