From the ‘land of the brave’ hails a DVD that throws new light on the role of the detective and how they work and gives pursuit to solving a murder that at first seems almost impossible to even begin to understand.
What is intriguing about ‘Anamorph’ is that it rarely steps into the arena of cliche, but manages to get across to the viewer that a detective who is pursuing such a case is already detached from the five-sense reality and through the evidence appearing has already crossed the line.
The line that is crossed, is a metaphorical point that is explored throughout the film, as it attempts to understand what drives a detective to solve a murder and at the same time reveal that without the intervention of the detective the fate of the serial killer is unknown.
Willem Dafoe is always worth his weight in gold when it comes to the acting he can translate onto screen and even if he were playing the character of a plumber, it would be a plumber to well cautious of.
Well written, well directed
‘Anamorph’ is well written, well directed and is a chance to see an attempt at de-glamourising the role of the detective and the murderer.
Although Humphrey Bogart established the character and the style, films such as ‘Manhunter’ and ‘Silence of The Lambs’ explored the relationship of serial-killer and detective.
‘Anamorph’ is a good attempt at revealing that the genre is stills ongoing and there is a great deal to be covered by work and understanding. Hey, it’s educational too.
